Camille and Tom Juban are awaiting a swell in Peru that might let them ride the longest wave ever. The swell is on its way but Chicama is still flat so the boys do a bit of skating then head to the town of Huanchaco to try out the ancient surfboards called caballitos. These watercraft made from reeds are believed to be the first surfboards ever invented and, unsurprisingly, they are REALLY hard to ride. What do you think? ” Pacasmayo classic 2013 in Peru was another great event. As last year, the condition were there and really fun.

My Family came as well and it was cool to see Tom just improving heat after heat and finish at the 4th place, not so far behind me. It’s too bad Bernd got his harness stolen right before his heat because I could see he trained hard and got to a really good level port-tack as well and Morgan Noireaux.

I’m really happy with that result but I’m staying focused for Maui in November.”

TOM HARTMANN MAURITIUS update

We saw amazing pics going around on Facebook and we were anxiously waiting for Tom’s update. One Eye had been going off and we knew that’s what Tom likes best! He ripped on his Quatro 110 and we are really excited to have him working with us.

After the Sosh Freestyle Cup in Marseille and short break at home, I am in mauritius since july and we were blessed with conditions during the last weeks … one swell chasing the other and lots of superb windsurf, SUP and surf conditions. We scored huge waves last week and were able to shoot great footage from helicopter, boat and tower in One Eye and also Tamarin Bay. I managed to screen all the footage but couldn’t sort all of it yet, anyway I wanted to give you a sneak-peak on some of it quickly. Some fotos are on the web already but best shots are kept for print right now.

Find attached a few …

I am heading back to Europe next week and then on to the Netherlands for the PWA event where I ll be head judging the EFPT to win contest in brouwersdam at the Dam7 festival.

I hope to be able to provide you some more footage by then.

BERND_ AWT PERU

Waiting for Bernd’s report on AWT Peru and what happened with his harness, we update you with the latest we received!

“Really been enjoying the last few days here in Pacasmayo.  We’ve got waves coming through everyday with video game-like consistency.  All week I’ve been riding sweet head high lefts, providing five or six turns a piece.  Wind’s good too, around 15-20 knots off-shore most days…  Plus, a lot of people told me it’d be cold here but I’m just splashin’ around in a 3.2 happy as could be, on land I’m pretty layered up though…  Can’t complain about the food either, Peruvian cuisine is filled with cool flavors and textures.  Most days I eat at the El Faro hotel, it’s super comfy here and everyone’s helpful (especially when I butcher the Spanish language).  You can pretty much cruise all day here and sail (paddle) out right from the parking lot. Sailing and surfing all day, glorious eating and sleeping at night, can’t really complain at this point…”

We think the video below talks by itself…

AWT San Carlos – Quatro Desert Showdown

Camille wins AWT San Carlos!

A quick report from Camille himself:

“We got there one day before everyone came and I have to say, it was a good idea because waves were there already and we could train on the spot without so much people.

Then the all AWT crew arrived and the first couple day of the contest the waves drop a little but it was way enough to have fun and start the contest with the first round of master, amateur, woman etc..

On the forecast, the peak of the swell was in the middle of the week so we also did one or two pro’s round to have the final on the best day.

First day’s the wind was good for my 4.2 but on the day of the final the wind was piked up and I was kind of over power with the 3.8 but that was the good call.

Keith told me it was really close in the final but the choice of my wave was better and that a part of why I won.

Now I have a good ranking in the overall and I just can’t wait to sail in peru which i’m gonna for a little less then on month.”

Congrats Camille!

And also congrats Levi who takes the 2nd place, Keith with the 4th place and Bernd, the 5th place!

BERND ROEDIGER

Price: $0.00

Details

Last day before the AWT San Carlos, Keith, Levi and Bernd already left Maui! Bernd Roediger answers a few questions!

–  What special equipment do you have for San Carlos?

I’m bringing like 5 boards:

– A short board for surfing

– A 7,3 stand up board

– My 72L I had in Santa Cruz and Pistol River

– My 75L I start using

– And the thruster I will use for the first time so I’m pretty excited!

–  What do you bring with you in your suitcase? The 5 most important things you need

Pop tarts: cinnamon, strawberry, wild berry, blueberry because I love it, my phone, lots of movies on my laptop, funny movies, my wetsuit and fix-a-flat!

–  Do you have a lucky charm?

I can feel like my board is a lucky charm, I fall in love with my board, I love the colors, the draws..! If it’s a bad session, I think it is because of my board, and if it’s a good session it’s thanks to my boards. Good or bad session, it’s all about my board!

–  How do you feel when you arrive on the contest place?

I’m always pretty excited to do it; I have to make sure I have everything. I have to stay focus on the contest because I’m here to win. This is my favorite contest, because of the whole atmosphere. The contest is fun and off the water there is so much things to do: biking, hiking, seat and eat, nice people to talk with…

–  Do you have a ritual before starting a contest?

It takes me an hour to rig my sail to have everything perfect. I put my wishbone on, I look at it during 5min and then I adjust it until it’s perfect. After that I’m pretty ready, just listen to music and focus on my heat.

–  What do you think about when you are sailing?

I think about all kind of things like about life. Not even looking where I’m going but I’m also talking to my self a lot such as: “Hi turtle”, “Oh look at this…” I think about all things that happen in my day, let it go and relax. Windsurfing for me is about freedom, no matter where you are going to, you can just sail and that’s it!

–  What do you eat for breakfast to give you energy for a contest?

Whatever my mom makes me. If my mom is not with me, like during this contest, I eat whatever we give me to eat.

–  So you don’t know how to cook?

I don’t like to cook; I am always burning everything. Last time I tried to make a sandwich and when I toasted it, I burned myself!

I have a good personality so people like to make food for me!

LEVI SIVER

Price: $0.00

Details

D-3 before AWT San Carlos!!  Levi Siver answers a couple of questions before leaving!

–  Where have you been training before leaving?

The combination I like is biking, surfing, gym, yoga and then of course windsurfing.

–  What special equipment do you have for San Carlos?

Nothing out of the ordinary for me.  My standard wave boards and wave sails.

–  Who is the biggest rival for you Levi (because you won last year in San Carlos)?

Well, I’m careful to answer a question like that.  Because there’s a good handful of strong riders that always impress me.  One thing I do know is the Quatro team is pretty dangerous!  The wave is long and fun and everybody looks pretty impressive down there so will just have to see.

–  Do you have a lucky charm?

I just do the run through and make sure I have a good board and good working gear.  I never feel there’s one thing that gives you luck it has alot to do with if your state of mind and if your stoked to go ride that day.

–  How do you feel when you arrive on the contest?

For me I just wanna get out there and sail.  If the conditions are bad it’s a little more difficult but I’m always happy to be doing what I love.  I need to enjoy the simple pleasures of the event and the main thing is to have fun and let her loose!

–  Do you have a ritual before starting a contest?

No not really I keep that stuff simple.  It has to feel natural and normal just like free sailing does.

–  What do you think about when you are sailing?

I’m thinking of what wave to choose and what’s feeling good that day.  Just trying to flow with the wave and take chances when you need to.  I love wavesailing it never get’s old.  My best waves I can’t even remember because I was just zoning out and letting my instinct over ride everything.

–  What do you eat for breakfast to give you energy for a contest?

Oatmeal with nuts and raisins’s with some fruit seems to be a good base for energy.

KEITH TEBOUL

Price: $0.00

Details

A week before their departure for the AWT contest at Punta San Carlos, Keith, Levi and Bernd answered few questions. Let’s start with Keith Teboul!

–  Are you excited to get there (because it is the place where you learned to wavesail)?

Yes I’m very excited! Every year I look forward to get there because it is a fun easy wave spot and it is a good place to stay with Kevin at Solo Sports (camp)!

–  Are you going to be a Head Judge again this year?

Yes, it’s the first time I have been a head judge in Baja. It’s a nice contest to judge because there is no jumping but only waveriding. On one hand it’s difficult to judge because waves are so long, so it is hard to watch the rider all along his ride and then get back to the beginning of the next wave and watch the next rider. And on another hand, it is easy because the waves are very distinct.

–  What do you bring with you in your suitcase? The 5 most important thing you need.

A wetsuit, my iPod for music, my book (I like science fiction book), my sunglasses and a hat.

– Do you have a lucky charm?

One of the hats that I bring all around the world with me!

–  How do you feel yourself when you arrive on the contest place?

It’s a good question, I thing Baja it’s different. I feel I’m going on a trip and then doing a contest rather than moving just for a contest. Because you are in a group living together, getting diner together, spend all days together. No one come just to watch the contest, there are only the guys that take part in the contest.

–  Do you have a ritual before starting a contest?

I don’t have any ritual, I just have to be organized and have a good time.

–  What do you think about when you are sailing on your board?

Because of what I do, of my job, I’m always thinking about something. It’s difficult for me to get away of my job because it’s what I do everyday. Sometime it’s difficult because thinking about my job prevents myself from going in the water and enjoy. But the other side of it, it’s that I can always try new thing and bring myself to another level. Having and testing new shapes make me felling good. It’s a good job so I don’t mind.

–  What do you eat for breakfast to give you energy for a contest?

Steel cut oats with fruits and almond milk.

Camille – AWT Pistol River

Once again the AWT event was a success!

Conditions weren’t easy, the forecast was depressing and the pro’s almost couldn’t run… When finally the wind filled in, the contest was launched!

After his 4th place at Waddell, Camille arrived at the AWT Pistol River bolstered…

More focus and getting rid of the booties despite the cold water of Pistol River helped him get connected to his board and sail at his best.

For the semi-final, Camille was in a heat with Levi and Bernd: “I wasn’t really satisfy of my sailing and I passed it only just.  So I thought I had to catch it up during the final…” And he did!

Now let’s see how it will go on during the next AWT edition at San Carlos…

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing Tom’s tribulation updates take you in magical places and just make you want to drop everything and go discover more of what’s out there. The last one is no exception: a windsurfing tale .

“After the EFPT event in sigri/Greece I returned to mauritius for some training and shooting. We did couple if nice fotos at one eye from the helicopter, water and tower. … see attached fotos. There will be some of them comin up in the motion magazine, funboard and surf magazin. I was supposed to participate also at the reunion wave classic, but unfortunately the event got cancelled due to two shark attacks that happened just before in july.

At the last week of the mauritius stay I had an unlucky crash on the reef and got some sea urchins deep in my hand. Had little surgery and returned back home earlier, but things are getting better slowly. Then we had the Austrian championships happening end of September in podersdorf where I have been occupied with organising the windsurfing side of the event.

Right now I am in south france acting as race director for the EFPT competition in Six-Fours and next week will move on to the UK for the final event of the European tour in Weymouth.

CAMILLE RULES AWT RANKING

Price: $0.00

Details

The American Windsurf tour is the perfect fertilizer for premium Wavesailor that usually get limited in a more conventional format. Levi, has been a reference in wave-sailing for years but could never express his real potential, Camille follow other tours, but always felt like he couldn’t fullly express himself.

The AWT makes these kind of sailor shine through and gives them the opportunity to ride a large variety of conditions: starboard, portack, soft waves to power swell from the pacific…It really gives plenty for everyone to show what they can do!

Camille grasped this opportunity and it’s paying off! He is now  leading the AWT ranking in front of Levi, and with one event left, things are spicing up! With the best Hawaiian riders, Camille defending his title and needing to secure his ranking, Levi sailing better then ever, live broadcast…there will be plenty to show in Maui in a couple of weeks!

Holger Beer, sacred German Wave Champion

Price: $0.00

Details

We are stoked to have a German wave champion: Holger Beer …

It is not Philip Köster or Klaas Voget it is our Holger Beer on Quatro Windsurfboards. This is unbelievable but it is the truth! After 3 stops of the DWC (German Windsurf Cup) he goes for victory.

What has to be said is that Holger is not a professional Windsurfer. He has a Job  and he is a great guy. Holger’s dedication for the sport is huge and If he has the chance to go on the water he will be out there- no matter if there are good a bad conditions.

Here is what he has to say: Dear sponsors, it could be summarized quite simply: Holger Beer is the happiest German champion of all time 😉

Last weekend, the German champions were crowned on Sylt and I had the honor to assume the German championship title 2012 in the Wave discipline.

I am ranked before Klaas Voget and Phillip Köster because I have participated in all events. In terms of regulations I deserve the title but I have to admit that I would have been not at the top of the podium when Klaas Voget and Phillip Köster had attended all the events.

In terms of performance I have to say that they are better for sure. But my attitude seems to be professional and if I continue to make such a good progress, I might even keep up with the pros someday (okay, it is never enough for Köster ;-)).

Finally, I want to thank you for the great support and look forward to the new season and a nice cooperation.

Aloha Holger

Finally, after following all weather forecast the winds from the north / northeast, has affected all regions of the Adriatic sea. Many of my friends went to Sottomarina Beach, close to Venice (now become too crowded to my taste), so I decide, to go on my home spot (where I grew up), and where the wind is more side off. Arrived in Venice in the night of Sunday, the winds was already strong but not as expected .. In the morning at 7 am the winds was already slightly over 25 knots onshore, but within hours, and increased and turned slightly more to the north so as to have almost perfect conditions. Unfortunately, when it’s completely north its a little bit  Gusty. .. while the waves breaks more regular. I have used both the 3.9 that the 4.3 always with the KT83 Quatro, the board it’s incredible, beautiful easy but at the same time very radical in the curves.   I sailed for about 6 hours, and than I was really dead… happy and tired, I drove back to visit my parents!   What a day! thanks! QUATRO EXPRESS TRIP TO MOULAY BY ROBERT BALDYGA

Price: $0.00

Details

“A week ago a very good forecast for Moulay showed up and I decided that I can’t miss the opportunity to surf the waves with 14 second period together with 30 knots of wind. We bought the tickets with my girlfriend Justyna and some friends from Szczecin and Sopot and flew to Africa. We planned to spend 4 days in Morocco and use the conditions to the maximum. The conditions were great with wind over 30 knots every day so we had a few very good sessions which helped us to recharge the batteries and relax a bit before the season.” #gallery-12 { margin: auto; } #gallery-12 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-12 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-12 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

MARCO PEREZ JOINS QUATRO!

Price: $0.00

Details

Marcos has been a friend in and out of the water along the creation of Quatro, pushing the level of what is possible of heights, rotation angles and wave riding. The vision stays untouched and here we can continue joining our energies to keep projecting the future of the sport in the Canaries and around the world, sustaining our culture and people to the forefront of the sport.

Marcos Perez: “It is with pure joy that I join Quatro as it is a brand created by real sailors that love our sport. I enjoy getting in the water and not getting complicated with technical things. And with these boards I have those new sensations that motivate me to try new surprising things. Thank you Quatro for giving me these new feelings.”

Keith talks about the Quads

I have been working on the quad concept now for may years, my first attempts where obviously to take an existing twin and add boxes to see what would happen back in early 2007. But with limited success at first but with enough of some other different and nice feelings to keep pursuing the concept of having 4 fins.

Into the development I realized right away that fin sizing and placement where going to be critical. First fins I hand foiled with the fins being more of equal size and I found that it didn’t work so well. Finally I was able to spend some time with Pio from Maui Fin Co. and we designed some fins together. Right away the board was much better, from these good fins I now had a base to work from and started playing with fin box positioning. Again another critical element for best speed to turn ratio I came to a point where I felt that the positioning of the fins was good and started understanding how the fins were interacting. Now I realized that the board had to be completely changed to compensate and accentuate the features of having 4 fins, so I have been working on new outlines, foam flows, rockers, rail foils to support the flow and drive of the quads.

From my experience I find the Quad to have great pop for jumping, equal in planning to a twin, more neutral in the way you can initiate your turn either front or back foot, a little more drivy than a twin as it drives out of a turn with more speed.

But I really I think we are just at the beginning of the development of where multi-fin boards can go. Its hard to say that one is better than the other because really its not about this but about what suits your style more and the kind of sensations you are looking for in your sailing.

We at Quatro have always pushed board development as far as we could, from shapes to technologies. I want to see windsurfing move forward in design and this is what I bring to the table twins/quads/singles, all boards to have fun and that feel alive under your feet.

I have been working closely with Levi on his new quads making faster rockers and different outlines to accommodate his weight, drivy style and need for speed, and than I have myself who likes a lot of rocker. Both styles of board seem to really take to the quad concept. Quads really allowed my wave-sailing to go to the next level by staying closer to the wave and going more vertical while finishing my turns more fluid and complete. Basically giving me more freedom to express my style in the ocean…

I have shaped countless Quad boards for Pros and Customers for varied conditions and have gotten really positive feedback. So I feel confident that there is something in the quad concept and it is here to stay and complement all the other styles of boards available.

The twin fin has revolutionized wave sailing with tighter turns and increased maneuverability. Any amateur or professional sailor felt the added value of this concept and enjoyed the benefit of having a board that would help them push their limits even further.

Following this trend and motivation of sailors wanting to be as close to the wave as possible, the influence from surfing came in and Keith started thinking about adapting the Quad concept by bringing it to windsufing, bringing forward a brand new potential to modern wave riding.

At first, the Quads showed great abilities in wave sailing but had a few drawbacks that did not make it suitable for production. So after over a year or prototyping and testing, the quad shapes started to show new infinite potential with an amazing performance in overall conditions, great wave sailing abilities, early planning along with other very positive attributes.

Putting four fins on a exiting twin fin shape was the first step of the development. The result was ok, but as the fins were tuned to match the feel and grab of a quad the shape of a twin fin became no longer suitable. And from here, testing and working on shapes, exploring new rockers, curves and outlines Keith found the Quad shape that will allow the concept to shine in all conditions.

The all New Quatro Quad line will be an all new shape experience with two sizes, 75 Liters and 85 Liters featuring the new moon tail concept along with a brand new and progressive rocker that will feel even smoother and faster.
